Crochet symbol charts, drawn the way you actually design

The chart editor designers have been asking for for a decade: in-the-round layouts where symbols follow the circle, group / rotate / mirror whole stitch runs, and radial repeat — chart one wedge of your doily and repeat it 8× around the center. Clean SVG & PDF export for your pattern PDFs. No install, no crashes, nothing uploaded.

Why designers switch to Stitch Chart Studio

Made for in-the-round

Mandala, doily and granny-square designers have long been stuck assembling charts by hand in design software. Here, rounds are first-class: stitches distribute evenly around each round and symbols automatically rotate to point outward from the center.

Group, rotate, mirror, repeat

The features every forum thread asks for. Select a stitch run, group it so it moves as one, rotate or mirror it — or chart a single wedge and radial-repeat it 8× around the circle. Your motif stays perfectly symmetric.

Publication-quality export

Standard Craft Yarn Council symbols with uniform stroke weight, exported as clean SVG or vector PDF at real physical size — ready to drop straight into the pattern PDFs you sell. No screenshots, no redrawing in Illustrator.

Crash-proof by design

Your chart autosaves to your browser after every change, and 100 levels of undo mean no experiment is risky. Save projects as small .json files and reopen them anywhere.

Nothing uploaded, ever

The whole editor runs in your browser. Your designs never leave your computer — no account, no cloud, no one else's server between you and your patterns.

Free to design, fair to buy

Every tool is free while you design. Exporting small charts is free too (with a tiny corner note). Pro is a one-time $39 — no subscription — for unlimited chart size and watermark-free exports.

FAQ

Is this really free?

The full editor is free — every symbol, rounds and rows, grouping, rotation, mirroring, radial repeat, unlimited undo, autosave and project files. Free exports cover charts up to 30 stitches and carry a small corner note. Pro ($39, one-time) unlocks unlimited chart size and clean, watermark-free SVG and PDF exports.

Which stitch symbols are included?

The standard Craft Yarn Council set that covers most patterns: chain, slip stitch, single / half-double / double / treble crochet, dc2tog and dc3tog clusters, shell, picot and magic ring. More symbols are added over time and Pro includes all future ones.

Can I use the exported charts in patterns I sell?

Yes. Everything you draw is yours, including exports — free or Pro. The SVG imports into Illustrator, Affinity, Inkscape and Canva; the PDF drops straight into your pattern document at true physical size.

Do my designs get uploaded anywhere?

No. The editor is a static page that runs entirely in your browser. Charts autosave to your browser's local storage and project files save to your own disk. Nothing you draw ever reaches a server.

How is this different from other crochet chart tools?

Most tools in this space are grid-based colorwork editors — they fill squares with colors rather than placing stitch symbols, so they can't group, rotate or mirror runs of symbols or lay out a true in-the-round chart. The purpose-built symbol programs are desktop apps that stopped being maintained years ago. The remaining option is assembling charts by hand in Illustrator with a symbol font. That gap is what this editor fills.

Does it work on my machine?

Any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux or ChromeOS — nothing to install, nothing to keep updated, and it can't be abandoned into uselessness: it's a web page.
